31 Ağustos 1967'de Dallas'ta doğdu.Yüksek tekniği,çift krosla ve ride ziliyle yaptığı çeşitli olaylarla dikkat çeker.The Atomic Clock ve Gene The Machine takma adlarına sahiptir.

İlk davul setine 14 yaşında sahip olan Gene,müzik hayatına Salyer'ın ışık teknisyeni olarak başladı.1984 yılında Dark Angel grubunda çalmaya başladı.3 albüm boyunca Dark Angel şarkılarında hem davul çaldı hem de sözlerin çoğunluğunu yazdı.Asıl ününe Death grubuyla kavuştu.Aynı zamanda Testament ve David Townsend ile de çalıştı.
